Endemic species of plants or animals are restricted to a small environmental area of a habitat. Endemic species often develop in isolated biotops like islands, mountains or in freshwater lakes without connection to rivers. Due to their restricted area of circulation endemic species are often threatened by sudden changes of their habitats or its destruction by man.
