Photosynthesis is the process of green plants to build up biomass out of sunlight, CO2 (carbon dioxide) and H20. This capability of green plants was in evolution of life the basis of the development of higher species.
Although there are existing other forms than this kind of primary production (in deep sea bacteria for example) the photosynthesis brought the breakthrough in the development of diversity until the appearance of humans.
