Loosing eyesight; a tragic fate hard to imagine, mostly avoidable (Courtesy: photocase.com) Eye injuries are often the cause for blindness. For humans it is the most feared and tragic loss of a sensory capacitiy because we are highly visual beings. In the US alone 750.000 persons have lost their eyesight due to an eye injury. Some 90% of blindness cases would be avoidable. Reason enough for international scientists and ophthalmologists to meet in Wuerzbuerg, Germany.
Effective preventive action at work, sports and in public places- based on medical studies - helped to reduce these consequences of eye injuries in some countries. Unfortunately in many countries of the world the lack of money does not allow to implement the new findings. The International Society of Ocular Trauma and the German Retinological Society conduct a meeting on Retinology and Ocular Trauma from 19.06.2008 - 22.06.2008 where an exchange of knowledge shall improve the progress in preventing the loss of eye sight which for so many persons still is a tragic fate.
